College Life

All meals are eaten in the friendly atmosphere of our beautiful 13th century hall - breakfast, lunch and dinner are served Monday-Friday, brunch and dinner on Saturdays, and on Sundays only dinner. Meals tend to cost around £4, and there's always options available for vegetarians and vegans.

Most evenings, in addition to normal hall, the college also offers Formal Hall: a fully-waited three course meal, with coffee, costing only £6.50 a head. Sharing a meal like this in a candlelit hall over a bottle of wine is an amazing experience, and it makes a great way to celebrate birthdays or entertain guests.

An example of a typical kitchen in Peterhouse - this one is from K staircase

Almost all students at Peterhouse, and all first years, live in catered accommodation. However, in addition to hall, all rooms have access to small kitchens containing a fridge, a sink, a kettle, a toaster, a microwave and cupboard space. In second and third year, you can choose to have access to kitchens that also contain hobs and the occasional oven.

The college bar is open 7pm-11pm every day, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The prices are fairly reasonable (around £3 a pint), and it’s usually a popular place to go after Formal Hall or before nights out.

In terms of food shopping, there’s a corner shop right opposite Peterhouse, a small Sainsbury’s a 5 minute walk away, and a bigger one 10-15 minutes away (which everyone in Cambridge calls Mainsbury's).
