What can you recycle?

Yes please

  • all paper, card and cardboard
  • envelopes, including window envelopes (plastic bits on them)
  • phone books and catalogues
  • food tins, drinks cans, biscuit tins
  • aerosol cans (deodorant etc)
  • clean foil and foil trays
  • metal lids from jars (please remove from jars)
  • glass bottles and jars
  • plastic bottles, including drinks, shampoo and detergent bottles
  • plastic bottle tops, lids and spray triggers
  • plastic pots, tubs and trays (such as yoghurt pots, margarine tubs and fruit punnets).
  • drink or soup cartons (eg Tetra Pak) wrapping paper (except plastic/foil type giftwrap)
  • greetings cards
  • cardboard Christmas crackers

No thanks

  • plastic bags and wrappers
  • cling film
  • envelopes containing bubble wrap, eg Jiffy bags
  • tissues
  • paper towels
  • video tapes
  • wood, plasterboard, sand and other building materials
  • food or garden waste
  • Pyrex, plate glass, glass dishes or light bulbs
  • saucepans and other metal items not listed under 'Yes please'
  • foil-lined plastic pouches, eg pet food sachets or juice pouches
  • crisp packets
  • clothes and textiles
  • motor-oil and pesticide containers (yes I know)
  • sanitary items and nappies
  • sacks of mixed rubbish

Details on Recycling Plastics

We accept these plastic items:

  • All plastic bottles (eg from milk, shampoo, or sprays)
  • Bottle tops, lids and triggers
  • Yoghurt pots
  • Cream or custard pots
  • Instant noodle pots
  • Plant pots (empty)
  • Margarine or spread tubs
  • Ice cream tubs
  • Tubs from dishwasher tablets
  • Trays from chocolate or biscuit boxes
  • Trays from meat, vegetables or fruit
  • Trays from microwave meals
  • Takeaway boxes from Chinese/Indian meals
  • Sandwich packets
  • Please rinse in old dishwater to remove food.

We do NOT accept these plastic items:

  • Hard plastic items (eg toys, washing-up bowls, storage boxes etc) - see further down this page for how to recycle hard plastics
  • Plastic film or wrapping
  • Plastic bags
  • Expanded polystyrene or Styrofoam
