How much are meals?

See the price lists.

There is also a Kitchen Fixed Charge (KFC) which Undergraduates must pay. This goes towards the kitchen costs and subsidises meals. It is currently £160.94 per term.

What is Formal Hall?

Formal Hall is on almost every day at 7:30pm. It is a candlelit, waiter-served, three-course meal that costs £5.65. Gowns must be worn and you must sign up in advance using the lists at the servery checkout.

How do I sign up for Formal?

To sign up for formal, simply write your name clearly on the relevant list at the servery checkout. You may purchase your ticket either when you sign up or at any time before the Hall starts. You must also tick off your name once you have bought your ticket. The deadline for signing up is 1.30pm on the day of the Hall, or 1.30pm on Saturday in the case of Sunday Formal Hall. If after signing up (providing you have not purchased a ticket) you no longer wish to attend, you must cross your name off the list. The deadlines for crossing a name off the list are the same as for signing up. You must bring your ticket to the Hall.

Can I bring guests to meals?

It is not necessary to give advanced warning before bringing guests into self-service dinner, lunch, breakfast or brunch (though guests' meals will be subject to an additional £1.58 guest charge).

It is necessary, however, to give advanced notice of your intention to bring a guest to Formal Hall. If you wish to bring a guest to Formal Hall, you must sign your name and, on a separate line for each guest, write the words "+ guest" on the relevant list at the servery checkout, indicating any dietary requirements.

At most six guests can be brought to Formal Hall; larger numbers will require the permission of the Senior Tutor in the form of a group dining permit obtained via the Catering Manager

Does the Hall cater for special dietary requirements?

There is a set vegetarian option each day in self-service hall. If you suffer from particular food allergies, you must inform the Catering Manager, your Tutor and the college nurse. If you are a vegetarian, you must indicate this on the Formal Hall sign-up sheet.

Can I bring wine to Formal?

Undegraduates are permitted to bring wine to Formal Hall. This may be purchased from the College Bar or bought from elsewhere, though you must pay a £1.25 corkage fee per bottle at the Bar if bought from elsewhere. The barman will issue a sticker to your bottle to indicate corkage has been paid.

What are the Bar opening hours?

Sunday to Thursday: 7pm - 11pm
Friday and Saturday: 7pm - 12am

What is the Sign-out Rule?

You may choose to not eat an evening meal in Hall up to 35 times per term. A meal bought at self-service dinner must cost at least £1.75 for it to count as a meal for the purposes of the sign-out rule. For any extra days that you do not eat an evening meal in Hall, you will be charged £3.50. Up to ten excess sign-outs may be carried over from one term to the next, within a given academic year.

Undergraduates housed in Parkside and Warkworth Street may sign out from up to 52 dinners per term provided that a lunch is taken in place of any dinner for which they have signed out beyond the standard sign-out figure of 35.
